Q: What’s is the biggest party animal on the planet?
A: An elephant on its birthday.
One hundred twenty-five years ago, a Belgian pioneer named Charles introduced the world to a new kind of chocolate and named it ‘Côte d’Or’. By now, over 60 countries have developed an elephant-sized taste for its cocoa-flavoured sweetness. To celebrate, Côte d’Or set up shop on the famous ‘chocolate square’ in its native Brussels. D8 invited a selection of Belgium’s finest VIP’s to discover the brands first flagship store at The Sablon in Brussels. All guests could taste the home made chocolates and some delicious hot ‘coco’ to warm up. After the shop visit the guests were chaperoned to a festive location (Flamant Home Decorations) a few blocks away.
At this wonderful location, we created a chocolate tableau vivant in collaboration with Belgian fashion icon Christophe Coppens (including chocolate haute couture hats & glass wear) and chocolate super chef Kasper Kurdahl. There was even an on-site sculptor hacking away at a 800 kg chunk of chocolate while Canon provided the right background images: a series of beautiful African landscapes that had inspired Charles all those years ago when he named his chocolate after the Gold Coast.
But this new flagship store isn’t the only party favour for 2008. D8 created a mobile African village to take the festivities on the road. Several major cities can expect a visit from the Côte d’Or Village soon. There will be free Côte d’Or chocolate tastings, a small museum depicting the history of chocolate, free djembe and dance lessons for African vibe-lovers and, of course, a life-size ‘chocolate’ elephant (created by D8) to parade around town.
